Introduction

Eyeglasses are composed of a frame and two lens. The frame is the metal or plastic exterior of the glasses. The sides that rest on the ears are called the "arms".

The lens is that piece of glass that sits in front of your eyes. Sometimes, the frame of the glasses can get loose and the lens may pop out. With this guide, you will easily be able to place a lens back into the frame.

    • Do NOT pull too far. The only way to repair a broken frame is to send it to your eye doctor or specialist.

  3. Take out the old lens if you're working with a broken one. Carefully place the new lens where the old lens used to be, positioning it so it's in line with the frame. The curve of the glass should be pointing toward the front of the frame.

    • Using your shirt is a bad idea to clean glasses. There can be a lot of dust on your shirt which will scratch the lens.

I have older lens I had placed in new frames. The lens kept falling out even with the screws being tight. I brought in the glasses back to the Walmart Eye glasses shop, cleaned the lens edges and tightened them back in. This did not help. I remember as a kid that the optometrist had a not sticky tape that they placed around the lens which helped hold it in. I asked about this but the shop did not know what I was referring to. I had just been fixing a loose nut and bolt with some plummer's tape on it to hold. So after my lens fell out of my frame again while clearing snow I tried using the tape. I wrapped the stretchy plastic tape around the lens and popped it in. Then with a new razor I cut the tape around the rim and it held- Yeah.

There is also a product called Sugru that is moldable glue that is great for this problem that Andrew Sparber had with this glasses. We use it to repair frame breaks in sunglasses for our customers, it's super tough and really holds broken glasses frames together. You can buy it at www.sugru.com.
